Instructional Designer

Please note: remote position, 30-40 hours a week (this client is based out of Chicago, IL but open to non-local candidates).  

Summary: This project requires an instructional designer with an advanced instructional technology skillset. The candidate will have expert familiarity building courses in Canvas along with an understanding of how to design and develop courses for online and hybrid delivery. This requires close attention to the course structure, chunking and flow of content, placement of assets such as video and images, and expertise with assessments.


  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design or related field
  • 3+ years of experience as an instructional designer in an academic setting
  • Experience building courses in Canvas
  • Understanding of academic course design principles and methodologies, including flipped classroom
  • Lead one-on-one and small group consultations in Zoom on effective practices of online and hybrid learning
  • Facility with learning new productivity tools and workflows and the ability to work in a number of systems (Office 365, Service Now, Panopto, Zoom, Canvas, etc.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to redesign courses
  • Experience with common e-learning creation tools and integration techniques, such as Panopto, Zoom, and Hypothesis
  • Experience with higher ed content
  • Experience working directly with university-level faculty
  • Understanding of online course delivery using video conferencing equipment and software (e.g. Zoom) and best practices
  • Ability to use graphics libraries and software such as Adobe Illustrator, inDesign, Acrobat, Camtasia to create visually appealing content
  • Familiarity with accessibility principles and best practices as it pertains to teaching and learning content
